Six Afghan soldiers and 30 Taliban insurgents were killed in a clash in Afghanistan's northern province of Jowzjan, officials said Monday.
The battle happened after the insurgents attacked center of Qosh Tepa district on Sunday evening.
Taliban shadow governor for the district was among 30 militants who were killed in the battle that lasted Monday morning, said Hekmatullah Aminzada, a spokesman for provincial police.
The official said that six Afghan soldiers lost their lives in the battle. 10 police were injured, he said.
Army Corps 209 Shaheen said that the attack was repelled by the Afghan forces who reclaimed two security checkpoints that had fallen to insurgents.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said that the attack targeted defense belt of Qosh Tepa district and exaggerated over the number of casualties suffered by the Afghan forces.
