President Ashraf Ghani has appointed Syed Hafizullah Hashimi as member of Independent Election Commission, the presidency said.
Hashimi was picked from three candidates introduced to the president by the Selection Committee.
Hashimi, Abdul Rahman Rodwal and Abdul Qadir Zazai Watandost were interviwed in presidential palace. The interview process was attended also by Second Vice President Sarwar Danish, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Justice Syed Yousuf Halim and Attorney General Mohammad Farid Hamidi.
The appointment of the new IEC member comes two months after the president sacked Najibullah Ahmadzai as chairman of the commission.
Afghanistan's delayed parliamentary vote is scheduled to be held in July this year.
