Taliban leaders are living in comfort in Pakistan and with plenty of drug money, the U.S. commander of international forces in Afghanistan, said Wednesday.
John Nicholson, the commander NATO’s Resolute Support mission and U.S. forces in Afghanistan, told Pentagon reporters from Kabul that there was no change in Pakistan's behaviour.
In August, U.S. President Donald Trump outlined a new strategy for war in Afghanistan, criticising Pakistan for harbouring “agents of chaos” and providing safe havens to militant groups waging an insurgency in Afghanistan.
Nicholson said that Taliban and Haqqani network leaders continue to reside in Pakistan.
“We have been very direct and very clear with the Pakistanis… we have not seen those changes implemented yet,” Nicholson said. “We are hoping to see those changes. We are hoping to work together with the Pakistanis going forward to eliminate terrorists who are crossing the Durand Line,” Nicholson said.
